~ Maryland, USA

Q How Large is your collection?
~ At its height, over 400 violet varieties and about 800 plants, including begonias, carnivorous plants, and other specimens.

Do you have a favorite type of African Violet? ~ I like large, variegated standards and the gaudier the bloom the better.
Q Is there one AV that you are seeking above all others? ~ Ko’s Mint Julep

Q How long have you been growing African Violets?
~ Since 2009.

Q Where do you grow your African Violets?
~ Basement.


Q What type of light do your African Violets receive?
~ One 3000k bulb and one 5000k bulb T12, T5, and LED retrofits.

Q How many hour a day do your plants receive light?
~ 9–12 hours.


Q What type of water do you use?
~ RO.

Q What type of fertilizer do you use?
~MSU orchid for RO/Rain water and MaxSea, also Osmocote and Peter’s AV formula.

Q What watering methods do you use?
~ Wicking over trays, with lighting grid on top.


Q What are the temperatures like where you grow?
~ 63-74F consistently.

Q What is the humidity of your plant area?
~ 70%
