Q Where in the world do you grow your plants?
~ Crystal Brook, South Australia
Q How Large is your collection?
~ Not big enough ;) about 200 pots and about 90 or so varieties plus seedlings.
~ YES! Buckeye Seductress.
Q How long have you been growing African Violets?
~ Successfully?? for about 5 years. I tried when I was younger, but I murdered them!!
Q Where do you grow your African Violets?
~ In my studio (craft room / atelier), its attatched to my bedroom.
Q What type of light do your African Violets receive?
~ LED light, no natural light.
Q How many hour a day do your plants receive light?
~ 8–10, depending on variety, age and cultural preferences.
Q What type of water do you use?
~ Rainwater that is filtered with an RO filter.
Q What type of fertilizer do you use?
~ I use an orchid fertilizer (Campbells orchid) 11-13-16 + Trace elements. And Calimag to buffer the RO water and add back calcium and magnesium that the filter removes. I use 1/8 teaspoon to 5 litres for wick watering, and 1/4 teaspoon to 5 litres for manual watering.
Q What watering methods do you use?
~ I use Wick most often, but seedlings and baby plants are mat watered, just for the sake of better moisture control.
Q What are the temperatures like where you grow?
~ My grow room is climate controlled to the best of my ability, it stays around 23-26C year round.
Q What is the humidity of your plant area?
~ My plants generally grow in 55-75% I do suppliment humidity in winter by keeping a pot of water on the wood heater.
